Memorial Services for John "Bryce" Johnson will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dale Lambert, officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date at the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County, Nebraska.

John "Bryce" Johnson, 74 years of age, of rural Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Bryce was born February 28, 1936 at Holdrege, the youngest of two children born to John Andrew and Pauline (Triplett) Johnson. Bryce received his education from Holdrege Public Schools, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1953. He then pursued higher education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he lettered with the swim team and graduated in 1959.

Following his education he was united in marriage to Martha Roberts and to this union two children were born: John Bryce Johnson Jr. and Andrew Eric Johnson. Bryce's life was always focused on his love for the farm. He also served as a Sales Representative for the Manville Corporation, retiring in 1994 and returning home to the family farm.

Bryce enjoyed sailing, chamber music, reading science journals, socializing, and coffee time with his friends.

He is survived by his son, Andy Johnson of Seattle, Washington; his aunt, Mary B. Johnson of Holdrege; special friend, Wanda M. Lee of Overland Park, Kansas and her family of the Kansas City area; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bryce was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Bryce Johnson Jr.; and sister, LaMaryce Anderson and her husband, Wayne.

Memorial Book Signing will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, on Sunday, September 19, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established in his memory and kindly suggested to the YMCA of the Prairie in Holdrege.
