Private Family Memorial Services for John F. "Jack" McCormick will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at the Lincoln Memorial Park Mausoleum in Portland, Oregon.

John F. "Jack" McCormick, 73 years of age of Great Bend, Kansas (formerly of Alma, Nebraska) passed away on Monday, September 5, 2011 at the Great Bend Health and Rehab Center in Great Bend. John was born on October 5, 1937 in Livingston, Montana to Lloyd W. and Grace E. (Francis) McCormick. John's family moved to Ellinwood, Kansas his freshman year in High School, where he graduated in May of 1956.

John was married to Betty Mae Klepper following graduation, and was then inducted into the United States Navy shortly after. He served as an aircraft mechanic from May 28, 1956 until his honorable discharge on May 27, 1960.

Following his military service, John began a long and distinguished career in Law Enforcement. He eventually earned a Masters Degree in Criminology from Portland State University.

John also loved to hunt and fish, which translated well into a career as a Special Agent for the USDA Forest Service, from which he retired in 1996.

John moved around much during his working life, but was usually involved in a Baptist Church wherever possible.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

John leaves behind his four children: David McCormick of Phenix City, Alabama, Jolynn Colberg of Manhattan, Kansas, John "JD" McCormick of McPherson, Kansas, Richard McCormick of Acworth, Georgia; two sisters: Leila Irwin of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Verna Uhl of Seattle, Washington; a half-sister, Cecilia Breigh of Houston, Texas; step-father, Floyd Morton of Boring, Oregon; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
