Graveside services for John J. Riley will be conducted at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Marine Corp Military Honors Team in conjunction with the North Platte Honor Guard.

John Jay Riley, 59 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska passed away on Friday, June 5, 2009 at his home in Holdrege. He was born on April 16, 1950 in Goldendale, Washington the oldest of three children of Grover and Elva (Bronkhorst) Riley. He received his education from the Goldendale High School. John was inducted into the United States Marine Corps on January 28, 1969. He served his country during the Vietnam War obtaining the rank of Lt. Corporal before he was honorably discharged on January 30, 1973. He then engaged in farming in the Lexington area.

On May 3, 1993 he was united in marriage to Delores J. "Dee" Nichols in Lexington, Nebraska. In July of 2008 they moved to Holdrege. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with all of his children and grandchildren.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Dee of Holdrege; his mother, Elva Riley of Goldendale, Washington as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 8, 2009 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
