A Celebration of Life Service for Joy E. Goos will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church at Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Dr. Mark Crist and Pastor Troy Vandament officiating. Inurnment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery following services. Everyone is encouraged to wear casual Husker or Royals attire.
Joy Erline (Trollope) Goos, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. Joy was born on May 17, 1938 in Alma, Nebraska, the eldest of six children born to Lamon E. and Lily Ella (Buzzard) Trollope. She received her primary education from rural schools in Orleans, Alma, Arapahoe and Parker, South Dakota, and then attended Axtell High School, graduating with the class of 1955.
On June 3, 1958, she was united in marriage to Dean Beckman and to this union, five children were born: Kathy, Jim, Sandy, Janet, and Danny. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Joy was employed at Schnerts Bakery in Holdrege, Becton Dickinson for 9 years, and then at the Hinky Dinky bakery.
On July 7, 1982, she was united in marriage to Walter Goos at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege and the couple continued to make their home in Holdrege. Together, they owned and operated the Zephyr Café from 1984 until 1994. On February 10, 2013, she was preceded in death by Walter.
Joy enjoyed traveling and attended many horse races through the years. She loved to crochet and knit and cheer on her huskers. Joy was a wonderful cook and will be remembered for her zucchini bars and rubber cookies.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, the Holdrege Eagles Club, and the Naomi Group.
Besides her parents, and husband, Walter; she was preceded in death by her son, Jim Beckman; son-in-law, Estle "Tilly" Tilson; brothers, Lester and Larry Trollope; two nephews, Tracy Vandament; Mike Johnson; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Joy leaves to mourn her passing; her children: Kathy Peterson and her husband, Kenny; Sandy Tilson; and Janet Anderson all of Holdrege; and Danny Beckman and his wife, Skye of Norman, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Shirley Johnson and her husband, Richard of Holdrege; and Donna Vandament and her husband, Jim of Pryor, Oklahoma; one brother, Lynn Trollope and his wife, Tracy of Sturgis, South Dakota; sister-in-law: Linda Trollope of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial book signing will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Joy's honor and are kindly suggested to Holdrege Memorial Homes and the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege.
