Funeral Services for Joyce Beatrice Herrick will be conducted from the First Baptist Church in Oxford, Nebraska on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Wes Holen officiating. Interment will be held in the Edison Cemetery in Edison, Nebraska.
Joyce Beatrice Herrick, 87 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2012 at the Colonial Villa at Alma, Nebraska. Joyce was born September 18, 1924 in Fortine, Montana, the oldest of eight children of Edward and Eva (Hellenga) Leonard. She received her education until 7th grade at a small grade school in Montana.
On November 27, 1955, Joyce was united in marriage to Chester Aldred Herrick and to this union two children were born: Joy and David. Joyce also gained a son, Chester Ronald Herrick with this marriage who she loved as her own. The family made their home in Oxford after raising her children in Washington State, where she enjoyed being a homemaker, baking, visiting with family and friends, and making crafts, especially owls. Joyce and Chester then bought a home in Joyce's birth state of Montana and they traveled and spent winters in Arizona until Chester was no longer able due to declining health, at which time they bought a home in Oxford. Joyce attended the Evangelical Free Church in Oxford.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Chester in 1995; a brother, John, in infancy; and a sister-in-law, Betty Leonard.
Joyce is survived by her daughter; Joy Chaffin and her husband, Richard of Oxford; son: David Herrick and his wife Kris of Stamford, Nebraska; one step-son; Chester Ronald Herrick of Oxford: two brothers: Ralph Leonard of Portland, Oregon, Howard Leonard and his wife, Mary of Potlatch, Idaho: four sisters; Yvonne Quilling and her husband, Bob of Columbia Falls, Montana, Geraldine Van Bemmel and her husband, Abe of Eureka, Montana, LaDonna Goff and her husband, Dan of Eureka, Joan McNutt and her husband, Charlie of Calgary Alberta, Canada; five grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.
