Judith Jane Holt

Memorial Services for Judith J. Holt will be conducted from the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk, Nebraska on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Bill Waterman, officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Judith Jane Holt, 68 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska (formerly of rural Holdrege, Nebraska) passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Judy was born August 29, 1940 at Holstein, Nebraska, the daughter of Bruce and Evelyn (Hemberger) Block. At a young age the family moved to Hastings, Nebraska, where Judy received her education and graduated from Hastings High School with the class of 1958. Following her education, she attended Cosmetology School in Hastings to receive her cosmetology license. Judy then moved to Holdrege, where she began working in her career as a Cosmetologist.

On January 9, 1960, she was united in marriage to Paul D. Holt and to this union four children were born: Deena, Shanda, Ryan and Mathew. In 1968, the couple engaged in farming north of Loomis, Nebraska until 1972, when they purchased their home place east of Holdrege. They remained on the farm, where Judy worked side-by-side with her husband, Paul until their retirement and move to Kearney in 2007.

Judy was a member of the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk since 1972. Family was the center of her life; Judy enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and attending their activities and sporting events. She loved to travel, and enjoyed spending time decorating her home and working in her yard.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Paul of Kearney; two daughters: Deena Holt of Liberty, Missouri and Shanda Laflin and her husband, Mike of Tecumseh, Nebraska; two sons: Ryan Holt and his wife, Stephanie of Holdrege and Matt Holt and his wife, Traci of Holdrege; twelve grandchildren: Katherine and Sarah Black, Josh, Seth and Shelby Blum, Tyler and Katie Laflin, Celeena and Clayton Holt and Gage, Samuel and Hayden Holt; sister, Beverly Nelson and her husband, Gene of Holdrege; three sisters-in-law: Virginia Holt and Doris Holt both of Kearney and Lois Holen and her husband, Don of Bertrand, Nebraska; three brothers-in-law: Roy Stapp of Omaha, Nebraska, Jerry Arnold of Cozad, Nebraska, and Alan Holt of Overton, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Block and nephew, Bruce Nelson.

There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Judy's wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
