A memorial service for Jule E. Barnes will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Christian Homes Care Community Chapel in Holdrege, Nebraska with Chaplain DeWane Dow officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at the Wilcox Cemetery, Wilcox, Nebraska.
Jule Evilina Barnes, 80 years of age, of Wilcox, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Jule was born on August 21, 1942, in Crooks County, Wyoming, the youngest of two children born to Cash and Opal Evilina (Strong) Rogers. Jule received her education in Wyoming until she was 14 years old when her mother died and then moved to Holdrege and attended Holdrege High School. Jule attained her GED in 1982.
On October 4, 1958, she was united in marriage to Harmon S. Barnes at First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege. The couple were blessed with five children: Venus, ParisLee, Darin, Brittany and Preston. The family made their home in Wilcox. Jule worked many different roles at BD in her 30 plus years of employment.
She was a Cub Scout Leader, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scout Leader for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting activities. She was instrumental in helping her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren learn to have Jesus in their hearts.
She was a member of CASA and a special needs foster parent. Jule enjoyed attending family reunions and most of all loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to casinos. Jule loved her fur babies, including bunnies, ferrets and dogs.
Jule was preceded in death by 5 siblings; her husband, Harmon in 2014; her brother, Leroy "Bill" Rogers; and son-in-law, Daniel Ray James in 2011.
Jule leaves to celebrate her life, her five children: Venus Shriver and her husband, Bob of Wilcox; ParisLee James and her significant other, Robin Monroe of Holdrege; Darin Barnes and his wife, Barbara of Wilcox; Brittany Kujawski and her husband, David of Alliance; and Preston Barnes of Omaha; eight grandchildren: Sarah Bertrand and her husband, Brent; Trenton and Kiana Shriver; Thomas Barnes; Savanna James; Branden Barnes; Elizabeth Barnes and finance, Rob Swogger; and Melissa Ortega and her significant other, Mike Johnson; six great-grandchildren: Emmett and Joselyn Bertrand; Luka Kujawski; Jacel and Zaiden Johnson; and Josiah Hickman; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
There will be no visitation, viewing, or memorial book signing the evening prior to the memorial service. The family has honored Jule's wish for cremation.
