Funeral Services for Julia E. Haskett will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Naponee Wesleyan Church in Naponee, Nebraska with the Pastor Scott Randall officiating. Burial will follow at the Naponee Cemetery.
Julia E. Haskett, 64 years of age, of Wilcox, Nebraska, formerly of Alma and Naponee, died Monday, May 30, 2016, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Julia was born on August 23, 1951 in Phillipsburg, Kansas to Edwin and Marie (McFarlane) Haskett. She grew up on the farm 15 miles north of Agra, Kansas. Her dad took her a mile, to meet the bus that came from Agra school. Eventually, Agra and Kirwin, Kansas schools consolidated into Eastern Heights where Julia graduated, with the class of 1969. She enjoyed chorus and music while in high school.
Julia accepted Jesus as her Savior, as a youngster at Camp Joy Bible Camp and attended Pleasant Ridge Sunday School, in northern Phillips County, Kansas until it closed. She then attended and became a member of the Naponee Wesleyan Church.
Julia continued her education at Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas receiving her Associates Degree, and then completed her Bachelor's Degree, at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. She loved to cheer for Wildcat purple. Her degree was in Dietary Management and she spent her working life, as a cook at various venues in Alma.
Julia spent many summer vacations cooking and counseling at Camp Joy where she made many lasting friendships. Soloist and group singing was always a part of her life. She was an active member of Naponee Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed serving on the board for many years, teaching adult Sunday school and ladies ministries and was the head of the Wesleyan Women for many years.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents; a brother in infancy, Terry Lee; brother-in-law, William Morrow.
Survivors include; her sisters, Joyce Kingsley and her husband, Tim of Wilcox, and Bonnie Morrow of Grand Island, Nebraska; nephews: Caleb Morrow, Matthew Morrow, Jacob Morrow and Michael Morrow all of Grand Island; niece, Candace Morrow of Grand Island; along with many extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Wesleyan Church in Naponee, Nebraska.
A memorial has been established in Julia's honor and kindly suggested to Camp Joy or the Naponee Wesleyan Church.
