June Elaine (Karlson) Boehler, 90 years of age, of Holdrege, formerly of Orleans, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege.  June was born on June 12, 1931, at the Karlson farm, northwest of Funk, Nebraska, the third of four children born to Bertil Rudolph and Gladys Violet (Norman) Karlson.  When she was four years old, the family moved to the Norman homestead, northeast of Funk.  June attended District #11 Country School, north of Funk, through the 7 th grade and then completed her 8 th grade year at Axtell Public Schools in Axtell, Nebraska.  During her freshman and sophomore years of school, June rode with her brother and sister, Burton and Erlene, to Holdrege, and for her junior and senior years, she stayed in a room at the home of Mrs. Sparks.  She graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1949, and pursued higher education from Mary Lanning School of Nursing, driving three days a week to Hastings for LPN classes.

June was employed at Brewster Hospital in Holdrege and later worked for Dr. Best at his clinic in Holdrege.  On December 24, 1952, June met Conrad Boehler at the Holdrege Sun Theater, where she worked parttime as an usher.  On July 23, 1953, June was united in marriage to Conrad J. "Connie" Boehler at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans.  The couple made their home at the Peterson Apartments in Orleans until January of 1954, when they began to make their home on the Boehler family farm, known as Mockingbird Hill.  They were blessed with five children:  John, Barbara, Bryce, Michael, and Scott.  June stayed home with her children and focused her efforts on raising her family, all while helping Connie, with the day-to-day operation of the farm, raising crops and milking.  June began working again and found work at the Alma Hospital; later in 1977, June and her sister, Erlene purchased and operated the Republican Valley Steak House in Orleans.  They provided employment for many girls and boys as waitresses and dishwashers.  After 1978, June and Connie ran the steakhouse as sole proprietors for the next 15 years, assisted by their daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Mike Hartzog.  In 1992, Connie retired from farming, and they moved to Orleans.

June then began working parttime at the Harlan County Hospital, alongside her friend, Alta Mae Hall, as cooks.  Alta Mae's rolls and June's Swedish pastries were always a welcome sight by the staff at the hospital.  On October 4, 2006, Connie preceded June in death.

When June wasn't working or tending to other's needs, she loved to play cards, and volunteer at the Harlan County Museum in Orleans. She was a member of many card clubs; and was also a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Altar Society, the Orleans American Legion Auxiliary, the Orleans Chamber of Commerce, The Tre Kronor Society, and the Orleans Civic Club.  She was proud of her Swedish heritage and always told everyone she was 100% Swede.  Her passions throughout life included:  cooking, baking, knitting, quilting, playing Bridge and Pinochle, and spending time with her family.  June truly looked forward to the times they all gathered, and she could cook a big meal for everyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Conrad Boehler in 2006; brother, Burton Karlson and his wife, Berdeen; sister, Erlene Gessford and her husband, Jim; brother-in-law: Randall Fandry; two sisters-in-law:  Margaret "Peggy" Brown and her husband, Dr. Kenneth Brown; and Josephine "Jody" Gehley and husband, Frank; niece, Sherry Damrow; two nephews, David Fandry; and Richard Fandry; and two great-nephews:  Jason Wagner; and Barton Damrow.

June is survived by one daughter, Barbara Hartzog and her husband, Mike of Holdrege; her four sons: John Boehler and his wife, Janet of Holdrege; Bryce Boehler and his wife, Karen of Omaha, Nebraska; Michael Boehler and his wife, Jamie of Minden, Nebraska; and Scott Boehler and his wife, Jill of Waverly, Nebraska; one grandson, Bradlee Hartzog and his wife, Renelle of Holdrege; eleven granddaughters:  Sarah and Rob Baltensperger of Lincoln;  Jessica and Scott Wheeler of Gretna; Kim and Joe Kubick of Lincoln; Lacy Hartzog of Kearney; Brooke and Mark Olsen of Omaha; Shelby Boehler and her special friend, Michael of Las Vegas, Nevada; Elle June Boehler of Omaha; Makenzi Boehler of Hastings; Hannah Boehler of Omaha; Brianna and Taren Kosmicki of Waverly; and Jordan Boehler of Waverly; step-grandchildren: Derek Billeter; and Drew and Whitney Billeter, all of Loomis; Ashton and Connor Jurgenson of Omaha; Alex Jurgenson of Tempe, Arizona; Nathan and Carlie Skiles of Gibbon; and Hayley Skiles and her fiancé, Femi Awe of Fort Worth, Texas; her great-grandchildren:  Sam, Addison, Reese, Nolan, Harper, Ivy, Cora, Ayla, Landon, Jocelyn, Maddux, Aspen Blu, Memphis, Makenna, Aydan, and Bryxtn; step-great-grandchildren:  Lexi, Dayton, Aubrey, Houston, Aspen Dru, Baylor, Bruin, Emersyn, Braxton, and Gracelynne; one sister, Gayle Fandry of Hastings, Nebraska; one brother-in-law, John "Jack" Boehler of Orleans; special friends, Bill Gerdes and Jan Lang of Waverly; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends.
