Karen Ann (Karschner) Wilbur, 58 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 8, 2020, at her home in Holdrege. Karen was born July 26, 1962, at Denver, Colorado. As an infant she was lovingly adopted by her parents: Harold W. and Elva "Jane" (Campbell) Karschner. In 1963, the family moved to Bertrand, Nebraska where Karen was baptized at Hope Lutheran Church in rural Smithfield, and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand. She received her education from Bertrand Community School, and graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1980.
Following her education, Karen was united in marriage to Mark Wilbur on May 22, 1982 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand. To this union one daughter, Kindra Jane was born. The couple made their home in Fernandina Beach, Florida, until relocating to St. Mary's, Georgia. While in St. Mary's, Karen pursued higher education at the Georgia Military College, where she studied business and received her Associates Degree. During this time, Karen was employed as an office manager for a Cardiology Medical Practice. While she was employed in the medical field, she learned a vast array of medical terminology, which she used well into her life. In 2003, the family moved to Holdrege, where she focused her efforts on raising their daughter.
Those who knew Karen well can relate to the fact that her entire being was focused around her daughter Kindra's life and her activities. Karen also had a special place in her heart for her animals, especially her two dogs: Duff and Mytzi and her cat, Treece.
Besides her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her daughter, Kindra, in 2008 at the age of 18 as a result of a tragic vehicle accident; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Lester and Norma Wilbur; her grandparents; and nephews: Kyle Karschner and Kit Karschner.
Karen leaves to celebrate her life; her husband, Mark Wilbur; three brothers: Wayne Karschner and his wife, Monie; Larry Karschner and his wife, Pam all of Kearney; and David Karschner and his wife, Debbie of Rangely, Colorado; and a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law on the Wilbur side of the family; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
