Katherine M. (Schroder) Benson

A memorial service for Katherine (Schroder) Benson will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Pastor Kevin Lund officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Moses Hill Cemetery, rural Phelps County, Nebraska.

Katherine Marie (Schroder) Benson, 36 years of age, of Elm Creek, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska, surrounded by her family. Katherine was born on June 9, 1990, in Kearney, Nebraska, the eldest of four children, born to Loren and Shelly (Haussermann) Schroder. She received her primary education from Phelps County District R-4 School and then attended Holdrege High School, graduating with the Class of 2008. She then pursued higher education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

On December 14, 2010, she was blessed with the birth of her daughter, Jozzlynn Marie Roach. She was united in marriage to Russell Benson on August 6, 2016, during a ceremony at her family's home in Holdrege. She worked as a paraeducator at Holdrege Middle School, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of many students. They made their home in Elm Creek, where she was employed as the assistant manager at Foster's Family Foods and also worked alongside Russell, helping with the day-to-day operations of his business, RJ Trucks and Refinishing.

Katherine had a passion for cooking and could frequently be found watching the Food Network Channel. She enjoyed spending time at the lake, listening to country music, and laying out in the sun. When she was younger, Katherine loved gathering with family for game nights and was known for her competitive nature, always ensuring she was the winner. Above all, Katherine was cherished by her family and friends and did her best to enjoy life.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Phyllis and Eldon Schroder; and two of her best friends: Kindra Wilbur and Robby Schumacher.

Katherine leaves to celebrate her life her husband, Russell Benson of Elm Creek; daughter, Jozzlynn Roach of Holdrege; her parents, Loren and Shelly Schroder of Holdrege; brother, Eric Schroder of Holdrege; two sisters: Aly Schroder of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Eden Schroder of Holdrege; grandparents: LeRoy and Verdell Haussermann; Stella Rasmussen; parents-in-law, Roger and Dana Benson; brother-in-law, Reon Benson and his wife, Mandy; sister-in-law, Gail Wentworth and her husband, Mike; nieces and nephews: Emmett, Eli, and Nova; Reid, Jentri, and Riggs; and Ryker; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A memorial book signing will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege.

Memorials are suggested to Katherine's family for designation at a later date.
