Kathleen (Darland) DeLaronde, 68 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska (formerly of Holdrege, Nebraska and Colorado) passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at her home in Kearney following a courageous battle with cancer. Kathleen was born May 17, 1946 at Denver, Colorado, the fourth of five children born to Monfort and Ada (Stanley) Darland. She recieved her education in Denver, and following her graduation she pursued higher education at the Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado, where she received her Master's Degree in Psychotherapy. Following her education, Kathleen opened her own practice in Thornton, Colorado, where she specialized in domestic violence counseling for many years until her retirement.
On October 27, 1962, she was united in marriage to David Martin, Sr. at Denver and to this union three children were born: David Jr., Kendra, and Deborah. The family made their homes in Colorado and Virginia throughout the years.
On January 3, 1989, she was united in marriage to Wayne DeLaronde in Colorado, this marriage later ended in divorce.
Besides her passion for her work, more important to Kathleen was her commitment and constant search for knowledge regarding God and spirituality. As she gained this knowledge, she was always applying what she learned in her everyday life. She felt very blessed by her many loved ones and friends; and was grateful for her time on this Earth. Yet, Kathleen was ready to meet her God when called home; and looked forward to seeing loved ones who have gone before her.
She was very artistic and her hobbies included: playing the piano, the violin, knitting, crocheting and needle-work, and loved spending time with her family.
Kathleen was a member of the Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church in Holdrege, where she served as the church secretary, involved with the church knitting circle, and loved being part of a singing trio at church. She also volunteered as a mentor with Team Mates at Holdrege Middle School.
Besides her parents; Kathleen was preceded in death by her son, David Martin, Jr.
She leaves to mourn her passing; her two daughters: Kendra Wilson and her husband, Joe of Rockville, Nebraska and Debbie Donovan of Ord, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Joshua and Kelsie Martin, Vaughn Hogan, Joseph Morrow, and Caleb Donovan; two great-grandchildren: Haylie and Max Ragland; one brother, David Darland; three sisters: June Floyd, Elizabeth Dixon and her husband, Tom, and Carolyn Darland all of Colorado; and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial book signing will be held on Friday, April 10, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
