Kathryn Ann Barker

Funeral Services for Kathryn A. Barker will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastors Murray Jones and Paul Bauman officiating.  Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Kathryn Ann Barker, 83 years of age, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege.  Kathryn was born December 21, 1933, in Holdrege, the eldest of three children born to Albert Roger and Hazel Evangeline (Brown) Peterson.  She received her primary education in Holdrege and graduated from Holdrege High School with class of 1951.  She pursued higher education from Kearney State Teacher's College and received her Normal Training.  Kathryn then taught in Sacramento, Nebraska and later, Funk, Nebraska.

On May 25, 1954, Kathryn was united in marriage to Harlan G. Barker at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege and to this union four children were born:  Sheryll, Susan, Brian and Sara.  In the 1970's, she pursued higher education and became a Board Certified Respiratory Therapist.  Kathryn had a passion for serving others, which was evident through her 35 years at Phelps Memorial Hospital.  She retired in 2002.

Kathryn enjoyed quilting, sewing and planting spring flowers.  She was active in the Wednesday Morning Bible Study and Women's Missionary Society; attending Sunday school, Bible Studies and singing duets with her brother, Roger.

Kathryn was a member of Trinity Evangelical Church, where she and Harlan served the Lord as church custodians for many years before their retirement.  She also enjoyed traveling to Europe, visiting family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Lloyd "Jack" and Olive (Bollman) Barker; brother, Roger Peterson on August 29, 2015; husband, Harlan on October 4, 2016; and sister, Carolyn Fitch on September 11, 2017.

Kathryn leaves to celebrate her life; her children:  Sheryll Barker of Holdrege, Susy Barker of Lincoln, Nebraska, Brian Barker of Waukegan, Illinois and Sara Barker of Falls City, Nebraska; brothers-in-law, Verlyn Barker of Denver, Colorado, Jack Barker and his wife, Char of Littleton, Colorado and Jerry Fitch of Commerce City, Colorado; sister-in-law, Violet Peterson of Holdrege; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Kathryn's honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
