Celebration of Life Service for Kay Christensen will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in rural Smithfield, Nebraska with Reverend Tim Glendening officiating. Following the traditional funeral, cremation will take place and a private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Kay (Johnson) Christensen, 56 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 23, 2015 at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. Kay was born April 23, 1958, the third of four children born to Charles and Amanda (Landgren) Johnson. As a young girl, Kay was christened at the Westmark Evangelical Free Church north of Loomis, Nebraska. She received her education from the Bertrand Community School, graduating from Bertrand High School with the class of 1976. Kay then pursued her nursing credentials, receiving her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Central Community College at Kearney in 1985. Through the years, Kay was employed by Phelps Memorial Health Center, Christian Homes Care Community, and served as well in a private nursing duty in home health care.

On March 2, 1991, she was united in marriage to Kevin Christensen and he loving accepted her two children: Bodie and Kendra. The family made their home in Holdrege. First and foremost in her life was her family, especially loved the time spent her grandchildren. She was always willing to help others; whether it was helping with one of her friend's kid's wedding or being involved with her class reunion, planning special memories were always kept close to her heart.

Kay's hobbies were gardening, fishing, boating, she was an excellent cook and baker, and enjoyed sewing.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Jim Johnson. She leaves to mourn her passing; her husband, Kevin Christensen of Holdrege; one son, Bodie Weeder and his wife, Tiffany of Minden, Nebraska; one daughter, Kendra Johnson of Kearney; four grandchildren: Payton and Hudson Weeder and Kane and Kinlee Kolling; two brothers: Joe Johnson and his wife, Jan and Jerry Johnson and his wife, Brenda all of Bertrand; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Larry and Donna Christensen of Kearney; brother-in-law, Ken Christensen and his wife, Nancy of Gothenburg, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Kelli Ackerman and her husband, Rick of Holdrege; one aunt, Verla Johnson of David City, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Kay's honor and will be designated at a later date.
