Keith Marion Weaver, 88 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family. Keith was born June 1, 1929 in Custer County, Nebraska near Oconto, Nebraska, to Gerald and Elizabeth (Weiland) Weaver. He grew up on his grandparents' farm. His grandparents, Roy and Ethel Weaver, were a loving and important influence on his life. He was baptized and confirmed at the Buffalo Lutheran Church in rural Custer County. Keith attended grade school at District #231, riding Tootsie, his horse, to school. From an early age, Keith was a hard worker on the family farm, and later as a hired man. He loved horses and often shared memories of each one he owned.
From 1951 to 1953, Keith proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving primarily at Fort Whittier, Alaska as a Supply Clerk. His family cherishes the stories of his many adventures and good memories of those years.
On December 27, 1953, he was united in marriage to Waunetta Maxine Lichtenberger and to this union two daughters were born: Susan and Melanie. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Keith was employed at Sawyer Sand and Gravel, and then the Holdrege Coop (surviving the explosion and fire of 1963). Keith then worked at the Holdrege Post Office, retiring in 1992, after 32 years of service. His retirement was short-lived, as the next month, he began working part-time at the Nebraska Prairie Museum, retiring once again, at the age of 86.
Keith was a faithful member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church for almost 60 years. His many interests included: gardening, camping, hunting, card playing, country western music, and attending the Duster sporting events of his great-grandchildren. He loved his family, enjoyed others, and had many friends. His smile, sense of humor, and warm laugh will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Waunetta of Holdrege; his two daughters: Melanie Lanham and her husband, Tom of Holdrege and Susan Ibach and her husband, George of Nashville, Tennessee; five grandchildren: Rachel Wells; Stephen Lanham and his wife, Letticia; Michaela Ibach; Anna Mullenax and her husband, Ralph; and Laura Ibach; 11 great-grandchildren: Alex and Ava Wells; Bella, Kayla and Luke Lanham; Isabella and Jocelyn Lanham; Clara, Lydia, Isaac and Josiah Mullenax; his brother, Mick Weaver and his wife, Bev of Lexington, Nebraska; his aunt, Evelyn Hutt of Lexington; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
Keith was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and his sister, LaVonne Norris.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
