Memorial Graveside Services for Kenneth "Ronald" Hartzog will be conducted from the Long Island Cemetery, Long Island, Kansas on Friday, October 3, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dean Gilbert, officiating.

Kenneth "Ronald" Hartzog, 76 years of age, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the Ogallala Community Hospital. Ron was born on November 24, 1931 in Phillips County, near Long Island, Kansas, the youngest of two sons born to Floyd Jesse and Edith (Sedman) Hartzog. He received his education at Long Island, graduating from Long Island High School with the class of 1949. Following his education, Ron was united in marriage to Marylou Hageman on November 23, 1950 at Alma, Nebraska and to this union five children were born: Rhonda Kaye, Michael Kenneth, Janet Sue, Bradley Wayne and Bruce Lynn. The couple made their home in Superior, Nebraska, where Ron was employed by Morris and Anderson Ford Dealership. In 1953, they moved to Alma, where Ron went to work for the Debus Baking Company as a deliveryman in the Phillipsburg, Kansas area. In 1961 he was transferred to a route out of Ogallala, where he continued to work for fifteen years for Debus Bread, which later became Old Home Bread. Ron then had the opportunity to purchase a retail/wholesale franchise of Fairmont Foods, which he operated until 1972. Ron then returned to work for Old Home Bread for several years, prior to his retirement. In his retirement years, Ron enjoyed part-time work in the area and also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid Husker Football Fan, yet always had a special place in his heart for the Kansas Jayhawks. Throughout the years in Ogallala, Ron enjoyed membership in the Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge, where many friendship bonds were formed.

He leaves to mourn his passing his four children: Rhonda Johnson and her husband, Jim of North Platte, Nebraska, Mike Hartzog and his wife, Barb of Orleans, Nebraska, Jan Stutzman of Ogallala and Bruce Hartzog and his wife, Roxanne of Ogallala; his former wife and friend, Marylou Hartzog of Ogallala; six grandchildren: Mindy, Lacy, Jesse, Michael, Bradlee and Leondro and their families; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hartzog of Denver, Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bradley Wayne in infancy; brother, Donald Hartzog; son-in-law, Mark Stutzman; one granddaughter, Jami Wilcox and one nephew, Donnie Hartzog.

There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Ron's wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
