Funeral Services for Kenneth A. Lyon will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Interment will be held in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County, Nebraska, following services, with Military Honors.
Due to health concerns, regarding the COVID-19 pandemic; current CDC and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services guidelines for Faith-Based Services will be followed. Kenneth Alfred Lyon, (known to some as Kenny), 94 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020, at the Mount Carmel Home Keens Memorial in Kearney. Kenneth was born July 18, 1926, on the family farm northeast of Loomis, Nebraska, in Phelps County, the second of three children to Will and Della (Johnson) Lyon. He was confirmed at Holcomb Evangelical Free Church and attended until he went to the service. He attended Ash Grove District #9 country school through the eighth grade. Following his education, Kenneth began working with his father and brother, on the farm.
On November 20, 1952, Kenneth was inducted in to the United States Army in Omaha, Nebraska. Kenneth received training to weld at the Ord Auto School in Ord, Georgia, and then served during the Korean Conflict. Kenneth was a skilled welder, often during the night. He received the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. On November 4, 1954, Kenneth was honorably discharged.
Following his discharge, Kenneth welded at various manufacturing shops, including Stratman Manufacturing in Wilcox, Nebraska and then Caldwell Manufacturing in Kearney.
Kenneth enjoyed watching Husker Football and playing BINGO in his later years. He was a member of the Buffalo County Post #52 American Legion in Kearney.
Kenneth was preceded in death by; his parents; sister, Grace Schubert; brother, LaMonte W. Lyon; and his nephew, Mark Schubert.
Kenneth leaves to celebrate his life; nephew, Dave Schubert and his wife, Diane of rural Wilcox, Nebraska; three nieces: Linda Harms and her husband, John of Martell, Nebraska; Mary Kay Lyon; and Karen Kreutzer and her husband, Scott all of rural Loomis; sister-in-law, Barbara Lyon of rural Loomis; brother-in-law, Clayton Schubert of Holdrege; along with many great-nieces, great-nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Kenneth's honor, and kindly suggested to the family to be designated.
