Memorial Services for Kenneth D. Schroder will be conducted from the Presbyterian Church in Orleans, Nebraska on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dave Irwin, officiating. Private family inurnment will be held prior to the memorial service in the Orleans Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army National Guard Military Honors Team.
Kenneth Duane Schroder, 77 years of age, of Orleans, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Kenneth was born April 25, 1934 at Alma, Nebraska, the second of five children of Walter C. and Helen Lucille (Kauk) Schroder. He received his primary education from District #66 in Harlan County and then graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1952. Following his education, Kenny served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from November 7, 1956 until his honorable discharge on November 6, 1958.
On May 16, 1955 he was united in marriage to Doris "Verlene" Sell and to this union two children were born: Delores and Donna. The family made their home in Orleans, where Kenny began his lifelong career as a mechanic and owned and operated, Kenny's Repair Shop. He also engaged in farming his parent's farm southwest of Alma, which he and Verlene later purchased.
Kenny enjoyed country music and dancing. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. Kenny was a member of the Orleans Fire and Rescue for 45 years, he was also a member of the Eagle's Club in Holdrege and the American Legion in Long Island, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harry Schroder and his wife, Pauline.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Verlene of Orleans; two daughters: Dee Schultz of Axtell, Nebraska and Donna Lux and her husband, Ron of Kearney; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren; two sisters: Myrene Snyder and her husband, Alvin, Wanda Cochran and her husband, Gordon; one brother, Daryle Schroder and his wife, Kay all of Alma; brother-in-law, Jim Sell and his wife, Diane of Holdrege; sister-in-law, Allene Gimeson and her husband, Don of Kearney; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Kenny's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
