Memorial Services for Kenneth D. Valentine will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alma, Nebraska with Pastor Jim Bendorf officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Kenneth David "Ken" Valentine, 71 years of age, of Republican City, Nebraska, formerly of Hastings, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. Ken was born October 5, 1945, in Hastings, the eldest of three sons, born to Merwyn and Betty (Wolfe) Valentine. He attended Alcott Elementary School and Hastings Middle School in Hastings.
On October 8, 1966, Kenneth was united in marriage to Shirley Sybrandts at the First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings and the couple began to make Hastings their home. Kenneth was employed at Great Plains Container in Hastings as a forklift operator for many years, until the couple began to make their home in Republican City.
Ken enjoyed bowling, hunting, and fishing. He was an excellent cook and loved to smoke different meats, especially turkeys at Christmas time. He was a member of United Methodist Church of Republican City and the Republican City Volunteer Fire Department. Ken was also a member of the Tehama Shrine, the Hastings Volunteer Fire Department and the F.O.E. #592 in Hastings.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ken is survived by; his wife, Shirley of Republican City; two brothers: Darrell Valentine and wife, Roxanne and Rodney Valentine, all of Hastings; brother-in-law, Richard Sybrandts and his wife, Cheryl of Grand Island, Nebraska; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
There will be no Memorial Book Signing or Visitation, as the family is honoring Ken's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Kenneth's honor and will be designated at a later date.
