Funeral Services for C. LaMont Johnson will be conducted on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, with Military Honors provided by the Martin Horn American Legion Post #66 in Holdrege in conjunction with the United States Army Honor Guard.

Clinton "LaMont" Johnson, 83 years of age, of Minden, Nebraska (formerly of Holdrege), passed away on Monday, September 24, 2012 at Bethany Home in Minden. LaMont was born September 10, 1929 in Phelps County, Nebraska on the family farm, the second of five children born to Clarence and Ruth (Jensen) Johnson. He attended rural school until the 8th grade, north of Holdrege.

LaMont was inducted into the United States Army on February 13, 1951 in Omaha, Nebraska and was honorably discharged on February 12, 1953 at Camp Carson, Colorado. He was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War.


On May 3, 1958, he was united in marriage to Phyllis (Delimont) Hunt in Holdrege. The family made their home in Holdrege.

LaMont worked as a mechanic at Becton-Dickinson for 24 years, retiring in 1994. LaMont enjoyed tending to his garden and maintaining his yard. He also enjoyed fishing with the grandchildren and woodworking. He volunteered at the Holdrege Food Pantry where he was devoted and enjoyed helping during the holiday meals and boxed meals.

LaMont was a Past Commander of the Martin Horn American Legion Post #66 in Holdrege and was a member of the VFW in Holdrege. He enjoyed carrying the colors during parades and at sporting events. LaMont had a lifelong membership to the American Legion.

Besides his parents, LaMont was preceded in death by one sister, Elaine Johnson; three brothers: Roger Johnson, LaVern Johnson and H. Eugene Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two sons: Dale Hunt and his wife, Edna of Minden, Brian Johnson and Kris Minnick of Alma, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Michael Hunt and his girlfriend, Kristy Ogen of Omaha, Stacy Werner and her husband, Steve of Minden, Terri Rockmann of Lincoln, Peggy Babcock of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Josh Minnick of Bloomington, Nebraska; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in his memory and kindly suggested to the Holdrege Food Pantry.
