LaMonte William Lyon, 95 years of age, of rural Loomis, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020, surrounded by his loving family in the same house north of Loomis in which he was born. LaMonte was born June 15, 1924, on the family farm northeast of Loomis in Phelps County, Nebraska, the eldest of three children to Will and Della (Johnson) Lyon. He attended Ash Grove District #9 country school through the eighth grade, and then attended Loomis High School for a short time until he began farming full time with his father.

On February 21, 1953, LaMonte was united in marriage to Barbara Johnson at the First United Methodist Church, in Holdrege and to this union, they were blessed with two daughters: Mary Kay and Karen. The family made their home on the family farm in Westmark Township.

LaMonte loved farming and actively participated in the farming operation until the day of his stroke in August 2001.  He enjoyed farming and ranching with his daughter, Mary Kay and his son-in-law, Scott Kreutzer.

He accepted Christ as his Savior as a young man and attended Holcomb Evangelical Free Church his entire life, where he served in various capacities. His most important duty was to get the organist to church on time. He was involved in the community by serving on the R-4 School Board and the Loomis Farmers CO-OP Board.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Grace Schubert; brother-in-law, Lauren Johnson and his wife, Margaret; and his nephew, Mark Schubert.

LaMonte leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Barbara Lyon of almost 67 years, of rural Loomis; his two daughters: Mary Kay Lyon; and Karen Kreutzer and her husband, Scott all of rural Loomis; three grandchildren: Tabitha Hill and her husband, Jesse of Lincoln, Nebraska; Tessa Gall and her husband, Devin of Elwood, Nebraska; and Brenden Kreutzer of Holdrege; 5 great-grandchildren: Kip, Brett, and Hallie Gall; and Reese and Jade Hill; his brother, Kenneth Lyon of Kearney, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Clayton Schubert; nephew, Dave Schubert and his wife, Diane; niece, Linda Harms and her husband, John; and many other relatives and friends.
