A memorial service for Larry E. Barker will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hope Evangelical Free Church in Kearney, Nebraska with Pastor Tom Thompson officiating, with Military Honors.
Larry E. Barker, 83 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, formerly of Loomis, Nebraska, passed away on September 11, 2026, at St. John’s Good Samaritan Society in Kearney. Larry was born in Crawford, Nebraska, on November 25, 1942, the youngest of five children, born to Vernon and Ruth (Davis) Barker. He received his education from Crawford Public School and graduated with the class of 1960.
On October 20, 1960, Larry enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on October 29, 1963.
On July 8, 1964, Larry was united in marriage to Alma Louise Daugherty in Crawford, and to this union four children were born: Keith, Brenda, Roger, and Cynthia. Larry worked throughout Nebraska and Wyoming and settled in Loomis, Nebraska, working at the CHS Grain Elevator.
Larry enjoyed taking his family on vacations. He was a wonderful caregiver to his wife and made sure she and the family were always provided for.
He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Loomis.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Keith Barker; one granddaughter, Laci Lea Barker; one brother, Dale Barker; and two sisters: Ramona Lown and her husband, Phillip; and Ladean Bridge.
Larry is survived by his wife, Alma Barker of Kearney; three children: Brenda Tomkus of Broken Bow, Nebraska; Roger Barker of Wittmann, Arizona; and Cynthia Ralls and her husband, Alan of Taylor, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Wanda Barker of Sargent, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Josh and his wife, Justina Barker; Laura Applegarth and her husband, Steve; Brandon Barker and his wife, Cassidy; Adam Ralls and his wife, Kimberly; Seth Barker; and Kyle Barker and his wife, Emily; seven great-grandchildren: Maddison and Klayton Barker; Sylas and Nexton Applegarth; Watson and Jag Barker; and Kinsley Barker; one brother, Kenneth Barker of Edgemont, South Dakota; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Daugherty and his wife, Jean of Martin, South Dakota; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Barker of Chadron; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
There will be no memorial book signing. The family is honoring Larry’s wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Larry’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
