Larry Jackson Freeland, 84 years of age, of Franklin, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the Arbor Care Center in Franklin, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born October 19, 1940, to Alfred and Florence Freeland. After being a proud graduate of Loomis High School in 1959, Larry served his country in the U.S. Army from January 31, 1962, to February 7, 1964. After his service, he returned to Atlanta, Nebraska, to pursue farming and work with the State Highway Department.
In 1974, Larry purchased Alma Livestock and operated the Livestock Commission Company for over 30 years, with sales on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The couple owned and operated The Depot Restaurant / Lounge, during this time, as well. After selling the sale barn, he continued his passion for livestock by consigning cattle to Huss Livestock Commission Company in Kearney, Nebraska, and buying cattle for many customers.
Larry married Sharon Haffey on November 17, 1979, in the Freeland family home. Together they raised four children: Todd, Traci, Lisa, and Rodney; in addition to David Olson and Cheri Monthy.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife Sharon "Shari" Freeland; children: Todd Siebels of Leland, North Carolina; Traci Nitzel of Lincoln, Nebraska; Rodney Freeland of Naponee, Nebraska; and Lisa Rohrbach (Cody) currently stationed in Kentucky. He was a devoted grandfather to TJ Siebels (Kaitlin); Tanna Wallin (Tony); Trevor Nitzel (Erin); Ava Rohrbach; and Josie Rohrbach. He also cherished his great-grandchildren: Charlie Wallin, Quinn Wallin, Carver Nitzel, and Chester Nitzel; his sisters Beverly Braden and Faye Peterson (Rodney); additional survivors: David Olson (Andrea) of Mississippi; and Cheri Monthy of Orleans, Nebraska; along with many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, J.T. and Caroline Haffey; his siblings, brothers: Bruce Freeland (Arzetta); Dennis "Punch" Freeland (Verlene); Deliane "Bob" Freeland; Rodney Freeland; two sisters: Florine Freeland in infancy; and Norma Freeland, at age nine; and two sisters-in-law: Carol Mae Pollen (Robert) and Phyllis Haffey, at age 16.
Larry will be remembered for his dedication to family, community, and agriculture. His legacy lives on with the lives he touched and the traditions he stood behind.
