Lawrence Peter "Larry" Goessling, 67 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society – Colonial Villa in Alma. Larry was born May 31, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, the eldest of three children to John "Jack" Herman and Sylvia Adele (Greiner) Goessling. He attended Catholic parochial schools while the family lived in Chicago, and later graduated from Central High School in Omaha, Nebraska in 1969.
Larry was married to his first wife, Nancy Waisanen from the early to mid-1970s. This union was blessed with two daughters: Melissa "Missy" and Jamie.
On September 19, 1981, Larry was united in marriage to Mary Weinand at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska. This union was blessed with two daughters: Anne and Laura. The family made their home in Alma, Nebraska.
He enjoyed music from several genres, as a fan. But as a guitar player he preferred classic rock, country and blues. He was fortunate to play with local bands with a large assortment of area musicians over the years, attending and/or participating in many regional jam sessions as well. Larry spent hours working on his technique and styles of playing. He was also generous with his time and talent helping young guitarists learn. Larry had a big heart, a generous spirit, and was always gracious and appreciative of others. He loved to tell "jokes" and stories. Larry was so proud of his family, and loved spending time with his children; teaching them, coaching them and riding bikes with them. He believed in the power of reading, and was heard to say more than once, "If you can read you can learn to do anything." As a result, he became a guitarist, handyman, mechanic, computer troubleshooter, wood worker and so much more.
Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by; his daughter, Missy; his step-mother, Maria; his brother, John; father-in-law, John Weinand; and maternal grandparents: Leo and Patricia Becker.
Larry leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Mary Goessling of Alma; three daughters: Jamie Knott and her fiancé, Jeremy James of Omaha, Nebraska; Anne Hatch and her husband, Chris of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Laura Goessling of Alma; six grandchildren: Emily Cederstrand; Javen, Jack and Miclain Knott; Emmett and Claire Hatch; sister, Victoria Goessling of Omaha; aunts: Barb Sousa and her husband, Louis of Omaha; and Lee Becker and her husband, Jack Slater of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Kandi Goessling of Omaha; mother-in-law, Lucile Weinand of rural Alma; two brothers-in-law: Ray Weinand and his wife, Fredlyn of Columbus, Nebraska, and Mark Weinand of Kearney, Nebraska; niece, Nicole Sinsel of Omaha; nephews: Tyler Weinand and his wife, Kristin of Omaha, Nebraska; Jay Weinand and his wife, Michelle of Columbus; Josh Goessling and his wife, Molly of Omaha; Nathan Goessling and his wife, Maureen of Omaha; and Daniel Goessling of Omaha; along with great-nieces and great-nephews; extended family and friends.
