A memorial service for Larry J. Lahowetz will be held on Friday, the 1st of August 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Kenton Birtell officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Martin-Horn American Legion Post #66 in conjunction with the United States Army Funeral Honors Team at the church.
Larry Joe Lahowetz, 78 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on July 15, 2025, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Larry was born in Omaha on March 22, 1947, the youngest of 6 children, born to Clarence and Elvine (Jensen) Lahowetz. He received his education from Clarks Public School and later attended and graduated from Central Catholic High School in Grand Island, NE with the class of 1965.
Following his education, Larry enlisted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged in July of 1968. He then worked as a semi tractor trailer driver across the Midwest. Later working for Holdrege Seed & Farm Supply, Sawyer Sand & Gravel, Caldwell Manufacturing and then retired from the Phelps County Road Department.
On August 6th, 1977, Larry was united in marriage to Linda Dodson at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege. This union was blessed with 2 children: Jennifer and Chelsie. The couple made their home in Holdrege.
Larry enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family and his horses. He enjoyed playing games with his grandkids and watching his grandson play baseball. He liked watching Husker Football, western movies and outdoor documentaries. He also loved collecting things that captured his imagination.
He will be remembered for his hard work and independence. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace and purpose in nature, a pursuit that spoke to his self-reliance and determined nature. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience and an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; Clarence J. and Elvine J. Jensen Lahowetz, two brothers; Thomas and James Lahowetz, two sisters; Joanne Rankin and Mary Catherine Truesdell, and brother-in-law, Dale Dodson.
Larry is survived by his wife, Linda Lahowetz of Holdrege; his children: Jennifer Lahowetz of Austin Texas; and Chelsie Heinz, her husband Trent and their children Eli and Emma of Holdrege; his sister, Clare Wollenberg and her husband Gene of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Joann Slater and her husband Jerry of Holdrege; brother-in-law, Jerry Dodson and his wife Connie of Holdrege; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
There will be no visitation or memorial book signing. The family is honoring Larry's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Larry's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
