A memorial service for Larry E. Landstrom will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Axtell, with Pastor Marcia Dorn officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Bethany Cemetery in Axtell.
Larry Ervin Landstrom, 68, of Axtell, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. Larry was born on July 25, 1956, in Holdrege, Nebraska, the eldest of three children of Carroll Ervin and Elaine (Rost) Landstrom. He was baptized at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Axtell. He received his education from Axtell Public Schools and later Holdrege Public Schools, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1974.
On November 21 1981, he was united in marriage to Renee Howard at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege and to this union, they were blessed with two sons: Aaron and Jason. The family made their home in Axtell, where Larry was proud to be a part of the sixth-generation farm, farming alongside his father, and then his son, Jason.
Larry enjoyed farming, reading, history, music, and collecting antique guns. Larry was a member of Kearney County Supervisors / Commissioners for 12 years; a Board Member of the Scandinavian Insurance Company for 30 plus years; past Board Member of CPI; and served many terms on the Bethany Church Council.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, John Howard; step-father-in-law: Kenny Meester; brother-in-law, John Howard, Jr.; uncles: Paul Landstrom and his wife, Velma; and Waldo Rost and his wife, Marcia; and a cousin, Darryl Landstrom.
He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Renee Landstrom of Axtell; two sons: Aaron Landstrom and his wife, Stephanie of Smithfield, Nebraska; and Jason Landstrom and his wife, Jayleen of Axtell; five grandchildren: Theodore Landstrom; and Revyn, Layken, Maysen, and Aveyn Landstrom; two sisters: Barbara Hanson and her husband, Howard of Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska; and Susan Rieker and her husband, Arlyn of Johnson Lake, Nebraska; mother-in-law, Neva Meester of Grand Island, Nebraska; sisters-in-law: Vanessa Crowley and husband, Jason of Kearney; and Denise Kummer and husband, Wayne of Columbus, Nebraska; nieces and nephews: Matthew Hanson and his wife, Brittany; Jennifer Nothwehr and her husband, Jeff; Kristi Foster and her husband, Brian; McKayla Hanson; McKenna Rieker; Mitch Rieker and his fiancé, Jace Wieseler; Becca Crowley; Megan Crowley; Jackson Kummer and his wife, Darcy; and Tim Kummer and his wife, Hollie; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial book signing will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Axtell.
