Larry J. Ortgiesen

A Funeral Service for Larry Ortgiesen will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege.

Larry James Ortgiesen, 71 years of age, of Atlanta, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, in Holdrege. Larry was born in Holdrege, on September 13, 1955, the youngest of two children, born to Darrell J. and Elsie M. (Seal) Ortgiesen. Larry was baptized and confirmed at the Huntley United Methodist Church in Huntley, Nebraska. He received his education from Wilcox High School, and graduated with the class of 1974.

Larry pursued higher education in Hastings and received his mechanic’s degree. Following his education, Larry began working as a truckdriver. His last two jobs were at Van Diest Supply and IES of Holdrege.

On July 18, 1980, Larry was united in marriage to Jayne Klassen at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege. The couple made their home in Holdrege briefly, and then made their permanent home in Atlanta. This union was blessed with a son, J.D.

Larry enjoyed being outdoors, especially boating and fishing. He loved his horses and dogs, but most of all, he loved to support his grandchildren, in their many activities. Larry enjoyed tinkering with motors and cars, a love that he passed on to his son, J.D.

Larry was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, Dodge pick-ups, his Western’s and his ability to fix almost anything

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Marvin and Carolyn (David) Klassen.

Larry is survived by his wife, Jayne Ortgiesen of Atlanta; a son, J.D. Ortgiesen and his wife, Noelle of Atlanta; three grandchildren: Taya, Race and Link; his brother, Rodney Ortgiesen and wife, Denise of Omaha, Nebraska; a niece, Erin (Ortgiesen) Jourdan and husband, Ben of Omaha; a nephew, Adam Ortgiesen and wife, Shelly of Omaha; along with extended relatives, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Larry’s honor to the family.
