Memorial Services for Larry H. White, Sr. will be conducted from the Hope Lutheran Church in rural Smithfield, Nebraska, on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Cathi Braasch, officiating. Private Family Inurnment will be in the Elwood Cemetery at Elwood, Nebraska prior to the memorial service.
Larry Howard White Sr., 65 years of age, of Bertrand, (formerly of rural Lexington, Nebraska) passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska following a lengthy battle with cancer. Larry was born May 13, 1944 on the family farm near Elwood in Gosper County, Nebraska, the son of Howard William and Betty Muriel (Lawhead) White. He received his education from Lexington Public Schools.
Following his education, the Lexington Mill and Elevator employed Larry for eighteen years. On June 22, 1963 he was united in marriage to Irene L. Chavez and to this union three children were born: Larry Jr., Randy and Carla. The family made their home east of Lexington, where Larry enjoyed raising hogs and cows together with his brother, Roland. He also enjoyed working out in his shop with his brother, Carl. Larry also ran a Swather, cutting hay for several years. Later in years, he worked in Maintenance for the Comfort Inn, the Super 8 Motel and the Days Inn all in Lexington. On June 4, 2008, Larry was diagnosed with colon cancer and shortly thereafter Larry retired and the couple moved to Bertrand to be near family.
Larry enjoyed watching western movies, tinkering in the shop on his 1925 Maxwell; loved to fish, and also enjoyed reading Louis Lamour western books and most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Irene of Bertrand; three children: Larry H. White, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl of Smithfield, Nebraska, Randy D. White of Smithfield and Carla Wilcox and her husband, T.J. of Holdrege, Nebraska; his mother, Betty White of Kearney; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers: Carl White and his wife, Beverly of Overton, Nebraska, Roland White and his wife, Marlene of Bertrand and Nodle White of Kearney; three sisters: Pamela Lee of Overton, Ronda K. Cowell and her husband, David of Chloride, Arizona and Glenda J. DeBarge and her husband, Paul of Lake Havasu, Arizona; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard W. White and his wife, Clara Mae; one brother, Lum Ray White at twelve years of age; stepfather, Lum White, Sr.; and one granddaughter, Latasha Star White.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Larry's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
