Private family memorial graveside services for Lars H. Hampton will be held in the Freewater Cemetery near Ragan, Nebraska with Lars' son, Reverend David Hampton officiating.

Lars Harold Hampton, 86 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at his home in Holdrege. Lars was born August 26, 1928 in a dug out in Custer County, Nebraska, near Broken Bow, Nebraska, the younger of two children born to David H. and Letta (Fisher) Hampton.

Following his education, Lars was inducted into the United States Navy and was part of the Sea Bees aboard the USS Springfield until stationed in the Aleutian Islands until his honorable discharge on October 10, 1949.

In 1950, he was united in marriage to Janice Marie Norman and to this union five children were born: David, Donald, Joel, Daniel, and Colleen. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Lars was employed by the City of Holdrege for thirty-nine years. He began his career as the Light Plant Superintendent and then the Water Department Supervisor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Marie in July of 1989.

In the Fall of 1989, he was united in marriage to Emma Jane Moyer. They continued to reside in Holdrege and Lars welcomed into his life her children: Richard, Nancy, Michael, and Jimmy, as his own. Emma Jane preceded him in death on August 10, 2006.

Lars was a member of the Holdrege Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years and Captain of the Emergency Unit for two years. He loved gardening, reading, watching John Wayne movies and the series, N.C.I.S. always peaked his interest as well.

Besides his parents and his two wives, Lars was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Eugene, and his step-daughter, Nancy Davis.

He leaves to mourn his passing; his five children: David Hampton and his wife, Bonnie of Lincoln, Nebraska, Donald Hampton of Elm Creek, Nebraska, Joel Hampton and his wife, Debra, Daniel Hampton and his wife, Pamela, and Colleen Hampton all of Holdrege; step-sons: Richard Miller and his wife, Lovey of Holdrege, Mike Miller and his wife, Linda of Holdrege, and Jimmie Miller and his wife, Tiffany of Arizona; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Lars' wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in Lars' honor and will be designated at a later date.
