Mass of Christian Burial for Laura L. Sweeley will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the All Saints Catholic Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Father Thomas Lux officiating. Rosary will be held at the church at 9:30 a.m. prior to the Mass. Interment will be held in the Norton Cemetery at Norton, Kansas at 2:00 p.m.

Laura Lea (Wetter) Sweeley, 71 years of age, of Holbrook, Nebraska (formerly of Holdrege), passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Laura was born September 15, 1945 on the family farm near Norton, the eldest of four children born to George and Zeta (Nusse) Wetter. She attended school in Norton, graduating from Norton High School with the class of 1963.

She was employed at the West Sale Barn café in Norton, and also cleaned homes for several area families.

On April 20, 1968, Laura was united in marriage to Sherman Sweeley and to this union three children were born: George, Sherwin and Lauretta. The couple made their home in Holdrege.

While in Holdrege, she helped manage the Eagles Club alongside her husband, Sherman for five years. She was employed at various restaurants and retail stores over the years including: Dairy Queen, the Holdrege Sale Barn, the 7-11, Daylight Donuts, God Fathers Pizza, SunMart bakery, KFC, and the Subway in Holdrege for several years until she retired due to health reasons.

She was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church, and past president of the Eagles Auxiliary Club #3132.

Laura enjoyed sewing, crocheting and Sunday night bowling.

She was preceded in death by her parents: George and Zeta Wetter; one brother-in-law, Tex Sweeley; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, George and Bernice Sweeley.

She leaves to celebrate her life; her husband, Sherman Sweeley of Holbrook; three children: George Sweeley and his wife, Shawna of Holdrege, Sherwin Sweeley and his wife, Betty of Oxford, Nebraska, and Lauretta Stonerook and her special friend, Sonnie Gipe of Holbrook; six grandchildren: Sandy Meade and her husband, Bob, Casey Higgins and her husband, Mathew, Jesse Sweeley and his wife, Brianna, Preston Stonerook, Sherman Stonerook, and Samuel Sweeley; two great-grandchildren: Kikiana Meade, and Wyatt Higgins; one sister, Caron Wetter of Limon, Colorado; two brothers: Roger Wetter and his wife, Lynn of Norton, and Edwin Wetter and his wife, Teri of Oxford; three sisters-in-law: Ila Schutz and her husband, Wayne of Cambridge, Nebraska, Judy Breinig and her husband, Rich of Arapahoe, Nebraska, and Linda Sweeley of Texas; one brother-in-law, Jerry Johnson of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 12, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Laura's honor and will be designated at a later date.
