A Funeral Service for Laurel D. Wood will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Mike Szekley officiating. Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, with Military Honors provided by the Martin-Horn American Legion Post #66 of Holdrege and the U.S. Army Funeral Honors Team.

Laurel Dean Wood, 88 years of age, of Holdrege, died on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center.  Laurel was born on April 22, 1933, in Hayes Center, Nebraska, the younger of two sons, born to Virgil and Eula (Hilton) Wood.  He received his education from Lexington Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1951.

On May 8, 1953, Laurel enlisted into the United States Army.  He served during the Korean Conflict, earning the rank of Corporal.  Laurel received the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged on April 12, 1955.

On March 12, 1967, Laurel was united in marriage to Anna Marie Troyer in Holdrege.  God blessed this union with two children:  Lisa and Travis.  The family made their home in Holdrege, where Laurel began driving truck for Sawyers Sand & Gravel Company.  He later began working for KK Appliance Company, as the propane truck driver and then prior to his retirement, the COOP in Holdrege.

Laurel loved to spend time with his kids and grandkids, and loved going to all their activities.  He also enjoyed watching all sports, especially football; car racing; and all cars, old or new.

Laurel was preceded in death by: his grandparents; parents; brother, Garland L. Wood; father-in-law and mother-in-law:  Jim and Cora (Lewis) Troyer; one sister-in-law, Joyce Payne; and five brothers-in-law:  Richard Troyer; Roger Troyer; Jim Griffin; Gordon Robertson; and Dean Gove.

Laurel leaves to mourn his passing; his wife of 54 years, Anna Wood of Holdrege; daughter, Lisa Wise and her husband Rusty, of Holdrege; son, Travis Wood and his wife Leslie, of Holdrege; two grandchildren:  Brianna Mangers and her husband Andrew; and Brogan Wise; one great-granddaughter, Chloe Mangers; five sisters-in-law:  Cora "Ann" Wood of Grand Island, Nebraska; Hazel Troyer of Orleans, Indiana; Viola Griffin of Staunton, Virginia; Melberta Gove of Holdrege; and Arleta Kimberly and her husband Larry, of Superior, Nebraska; two brothers-in-law:  Bill Payne and his wife Edith, of St. Paul, Nebraska; and Russel Troyer and his wife Pat, of Holdrege; along with a host of nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 9, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Laurel's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
