A Memorial Graveside Service for Lauren M. Swanson will be held on Monday, April 25, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. at the Fridhem Cemetery in rural Funk, Nebraska, with Pastor Daren Popple officiating.

Lauren Martin Swanson, 90 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Lauren was born on September 12, 1931, on the farm in Funk, the youngest of four children born to Herman and Martha (Paulsen) Swanson. Lauren was raised by Abdul and Mildred Johnson of Funk. He received his primary education from a country school and later attended and graduated from Holdrege Public Schools in 1949.

On April 18, 1959, he was united in marriage to Irma Merchant in Grand Island, Nebraska. This union was blessed with five children: Mike, Bill, Martha, Lynn, and Lane. They made their home north of Funk, where Lauren farmed until 1964. The family then moved to Holdrege where Lauren was employed by the Nebraska State Department of Roads as a mechanic and maintainer until his retirement.

He enjoyed watching Husker football, and tinkering with cars, but above all, Lauren was a hard worker and a dedicated family man.

Lauren was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Bill Swanson; sister, Dorothy Chingren and her husband, Dale; one brother, Arden Swanson and his wife, Delores; and sister-in-law Mildred Swanson.

Left to cherish his memory include: his wife of 64 years, Irma Swanson of Holdrege; his children: Mike Swanson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Martha Swanson of Loomis; Lynn Swanson and Lane Swanson, both of Holdrege; his brother, Lowell Swanson of Sidney, Nebraska; along with many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial will be established in Lauren's honor and is kindly suggested to the family.
