A Memorial Service for LaVerna M. Wieland will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Oxford, Nebraska, with Pastor Brian Jenkins officiating. A private family inurnment will be held prior to the service at the Hendley Cemetery, Hendley, Nebraska.

LaVerna Mae Wieland, 93 years of age, passed away on July 27, 2026, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska.  She was born on May 24, 1933 in Lincoln, Kansas, the eldest of three daughters born to Harold and Alma (Spear) Hanneman. She received her primary education at Union #4 District School and later attended Wilsonville Public Schools.

LaVerna's greatest joy was raising her four children: LaVerta, Bob, Tim, and Chuck.  They lived in Wauneta, Nebraska for many years, where LaVerna worked at the school as a cook.   They then made their home in Oxford, where she worked for the ESU #11, at Mid-Nebraska, as a teacher.

She enjoyed her life on the farm and tending to her yard and flower gardens. She loved attending stockcar races and watching the PBR. But most of all, LaVerna treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Oxford.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert Litz; her sister, Arlene Rice and her husband, Warren; brother-in-law, Arvid Bell; and her son-in-law, Terry Kitt.

She leaves to celebrate her life; her children: LaVerta Kitt of North Bend, Nebraska; Tim Litz and his wife, Cindy of North Platte, Nebraska; and Charles Taylor and his wife, Gerry of Oxford; daughter-in-law, Debie Litz of Hendley, Nebraska;15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; her sister, Nyla Bell of Hendley; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

There will not be a visitation, viewing or memorial book signing the evening prior to the service.  Cremation was chosen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in LaVerna's honor are suggested to the donor's choice.
