Norma Laverne (Rollstin) Chapman, 94 years of age, of Arapahoe, Nebraska (formerly of Edison) passed away on Monday, September 21, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Society in Arapahoe. Laverne was born January 18, 1915 at Giltner, Nebraska, the second daughter of Ralph D. and Carmen (McCoy) Rollstin. She received her education at Edison, graduating from Edison High School with the class of 1933. She was baptized into the Christian faith at the age of 10 years in the Edison Christian Church, and remained an active member her entire life.

On December 25, 1933 she was united in marriage to Abraham "Abe" Chapman at the Edison Christian Church parsonage and to this union two children were born: Gary and Marilyn. The family made their home in and around Edison except for two years, when they lived in Lexington, Nebraska.

Abe and Laverne engaged in farming and also ran the Edison roller skating rink in the 1950's. Laverne sold Avon for 25 years. She also worked as a property assessor in Furnas County. Her main focus however, was being a good homemaker, mother and grandmother.

Her hobbies were sewing, especially embroidery work, and working crossword puzzles.

Laverne moved from her home in Edison to the Good Samaritan Suites in Arapahoe in August of 2008, where she resided until her death. Laverne was the Matriarch of six generations in her family.

She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Marilyn Shaffer and her husband, Bob of Edison; daughter-in-law, Norma Lee Chapman of Oxford, Nebraska; sister, Ruby Martin and her husband, Mark of Kearney, Nebraska; four generations of grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Ben McCann; husband, Abe in 1962; son, Gary; grandsons: Ronnie and Donnie Chapman; sisters: Dorothy (McCann) Mues and her husband, Wayne and Leona (Rollstin) Gockley and her husband, Ralph; brother-in-law, Jim Hays and grandson-in-law, Alan Amen.
