Memorial Services for Leland D. Green will be conducted from the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk, Nebraska on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Darrel Wissmann, PMA, Dean Pofahl and Wilmer Severns, officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Fridhem Lutheran Cemetery at Funk.

Leland Dwaine "Lee" Green, 81 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska (formerly of Funk) passed away on Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Mt. Carmel Home-Keens Memorial at Kearney. Lee was born September 23, 1929 at Diller, Nebraska, the eldest of five sons born to Wilbur F. and Clara E. (Lampe) Green. Lee received his education at Diller, graduating from Diller High School with the class 1947. Following his education, Lee began his lifelong career with the Burlington-Northern Railroad. He started out with the Signal Department involved in different divisions, and later worked his way up to a Signal Inspector.

On January 19, 1951, Lee was inducted into the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on January 16, 1953. He then continued in the Army Reserves until April 4, 1957. After his service, Lee returned to the Burlington-Northern Railroad, where he was employed for a total of 41 years.

On December 10, 1960 he was united in marriage to Dixie B. Taylor of Oxford, Nebraska and to this union two children were born: Gregory Scott and Lisa Kay. The family made their home in Holdrege for nine years, prior to settling to Funk for over 40 years. Lee's primary responsibility was to maintain signals for the railroad from Oxford to Axtell, Nebraska. He retired in 1988, and the couple continued to reside in Funk until moving to Cambridge Court in Kearney in 2008.

Lee loved to fish, tinker in his shop, was avid Husker Football fan and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of the Fridhem Lutheran Church.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Dixie of Kearney; son, Greg Green and his wife, Denise of Kearney; daughter, Lisa Green of Kearney; two grandchildren: Traci Green of Lincoln, Nebraska and Adam Green of Kearney; three brothers: Gale Green and his wife, Joyce of Lincoln, Dennis Green and his wife, Donna of Omaha, Nebraska and Jim Green of Benton, Louisiana; brother-in-law, Herbert Taylor and his wife, Sue of Nashville, Tennessee; five sisters-in-law: Anita Taylor of Gaitherburg, Maryland, Judy Tadlock of Kearney, Zona Fritz and her husband, Ron of McCook, Nebraska, Gloria Egge of Kearney, and Nancy Fry of Grand Island, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Everett and Inez Taylor; one brother, Neal Green; brother-in-law, Walt Taylor; and sister-in-law, Avis Johnson and her husband, Lloyd.

Memorial Book Signing will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
