Funeral Services for A. Lenore Fox will be conducted from the United Methodist Church in Bertrand, Nebraska on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Connie Karr and Reverend Gary Main, officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand.

Alyce "Lenore" Fox, 83 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska (formerly of Bertrand) passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Mt. Carmel Home – Keens Memorial in Kearney. Lenore was born on the family farm in Phelps County, Nebraska, the daughter of Henry Willis and Ruby Evelyn (Chalberg) Smith. She received her primary education from the Snowball District #66 north of Holdrege and the Moses Hill District #14 in Phelps County. Lenore then attended Holdrege Public Schools through the 11th grade, at which time the family moved to Bertrand, where she completed her senior year and graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1944. Following her education, Lenore was employed by the Hamburger Inn, J.M. McDonald's Department Store and the Bakery in Holdrege.

On December 4, 1946, Lenore was united in marriage to Spencer Ivan "Spenny" Fox and to this union four children were born: Jean, Lynn, Wayne and Kim. The family made their home in Bertrand, where Lenore focused on raising their children. After the children were grown, she was employed in housekeeping at the Bertrand Nursing Home and later in foodservice for the Bertrand Public School.

Lenore was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Bertrand, where she was active with the United Methodist Women. Lenore was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Bertrand. When Lenore was a young girl, she enjoyed roller skating at the City Auditorium in Holdrege. She will be fondly remembered for her talent of cooking and baking. Lenore loved to travel, enjoyed dancing and most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed many friendship bonds formed having coffee with her friends. On March 26, 2002 she was preceded in death by her husband, Spenny. Besides her husband and parents, Lenore was preceded in death by her brother, Darell Smith and brother-in-law, Spencer Griffith.

She leaves to mourn her passing her two daughters: Jean Fox of Bertrand, Kim Anderson and her husband, David of Kearney; two sons: Lynn Fox and his wife, Karen of Billings, Montana and Wayne Fox of Bertrand; four grandchildren: Kiley Wolfe of Kearney, Erin Gehrig and her husband, Rob of Kearney, Cory Fox of Omaha, Wendy Fox and her fiancé, David Boesch of Holdrege; five great-grandchildren: Mitchell Gehrig, Sarah Brown, Kaden Gehrig, Spencer Gehrig and Abigail Fox; two sisters: Verla Matuschka and her husband, Ernest of Kearney and Betty Meyer and her husband, Darrel of Bertrand; sister-in-law, Merna Smith of Bertrand; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
