A Funeral Service for Leona M. Jacobsen will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating. A graveside service be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Minden Cemetery, Minden, Nebraska.
Leona Margaret Jacobsen, 95 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Leona was born November 8, 1929, at her parent's home in Axtell, Nebraska, the sixth of 17 children born to Jens Christian and Bertha J.G. (Quadhammer) Hansen. She was baptized on February 23, 1930, at Axtell and later confirmed on May 20, 1945 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Hildreth. Leona received her primary education from Minden Elementary school through the 5th Grade and then attended Hildreth Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1947.
On March 14, 1948, Leona was united in marriage to Leo Gordon Jacobsen in Hildreth. The couple were blessed with five children: Carl "Jake", Gordon, Charlotte, Robert, and Betty. Leona worked for the Minden Public School System and later, the Holdrege Public School System, as a school cook. She enjoyed the interaction with the students.
Leona enjoyed embroidery and sitting down with a good book. She became a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in 2003.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo Jacobsen; a son, Gordon in infancy; a daughter, Betty Jacobsen; a granddaughter, Tracy Jacobsen in infancy; siblings: Inward (Mary) Hansen; Dorothy (Grant) Johnson; Marvin (Marian) Hansen; Henry Hansen; Viola (Faye) Spors; Edna (Leroy) Anderson; Lily Ann Berlie; Minnie (Charles) Hendrickson; and Raymond Hansen; and two brothers-in-law: Maynard Johnson; and Don Jensen.
She leaves to celebrate her life, her three children: Carl "Jake" Jacobsen and wife, Peggy of Holdrege; Charlotte Lahndorf and husband, Howard "Lucky" of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Robert (Barb) Jacobsen of Gibbon, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Christie (Claude) Couvillion; Brenda (Nicholas) Smith; Angie (Mark) Minks; Adam (Lanea) Howard; Megan Aue; and Rhianna Jacobsen; 16 great-grandchildren; five sisters: Gladys Johnson of Holdrege; Mary Jane Jensen of Aurora, Nebraska; Carol Jean Abramson of Kearney, Nebraska; Elizabeth (Gary) Johson of Stapleton, Nebraska; and Rose (Don) Gillespie of Globe, Arizona; two brothers: Stanley (Sylvia) Hansen of Minden, Nebraska; and Harold Hansen (Rhonda) of Wood River, Nebraska; a brother-in-law: Robert "Bob" Berlie of Holdrege; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
