A memorial book signing for LeRoy W. Rogers will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska.
LeRoy William "Uncle Bill" Rogers, 85 years of age, of Minden, Nebraska (formerly of Holdrege), passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Kearney County Health Services in Minden, Nebraska. LeRoy was born on August 7, 1933 in St. Francis, South Dakota, to Cash Justus and Opal Evilina (Strong) Rogers. He received his education at Kilgore, Nebraska, and then Moorcroft, Wyoming.
On April 7, 1956, he was united in marriage to Barbara A. Kimberly in Holdrege and to this union five children were born: Rosemary, William, Debbie, David and Connie. The family made their home in Harlan County, Nebraska, and later Holdrege. Throughout the years, LeRoy's work was his passion. He was employed in a Bentonite Mining Plant in Upland, Wyoming, the Harlan County Department of Roads, Palmer Brothers Granite Company in Holdrege, and later in years the Edison Hay Mill in Edison, Nebraska prior to his retirement in 1986.
Horses were always a big part of his life, as he broke horses for his aunt and uncle in Wyoming. His hobbies included fishing and hunting with Uncle Ernie and Wilford Barnes. He was also an avid gardener. LeRoy loved his family, and never missed an opportunity to reach out and help them in times of need. In later years, he treasured the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On September 11, 2009, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, David Rogers; one granddaughter, Barbara Mae Rogers; and one step great-granddaughter, Maddison Mae Weaver.
He leaves to celebrate his life, three daughters: Rosemary Thompson and her husband, Rick of Solon Springs, Wisconsin; Debbie Wilson of Oxford, Nebraska and her fiancé, Delvin Wright of Holdrege; and Connie Rogers of Hastings, Nebraska; one son, William LeRoy "Bill" Rogers and his wife, Kathy of Holdrege; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, and step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Julie Barnes of Wilcox, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Larry Kimberly and his wife, Arleta of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to the memorial book signing on Thursday, the family will have a celebration of life service at a later date.
A memorial has been established in LeRoy's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
