Leroy D. Stone

Memorial Services for Leroy D. Stone will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church in Alma, Nebraska, with Pastor Paul Ferrarone officiating.  Inurnment will be held at Alma Cemetery following services.

Leroy Dennis "Stoney" Stone, 72 years of age, of Alma, formerly of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society-Colonial Villa at Alma. Leroy was born April 20, 1947, at the family home in Phillips County, Kansas, the younger of two children born to Harold and Louise (Bartels) Stone. He received his education from Alma Public Schools, graduating with the Alma High School class of 1965.

Following his education, Leroy was trained as an electrical line operator.  He was employed throughout the United States, but spent most of his career in Phoenix. Leroy was drawn to the warm weather that Arizona had to offer. He enjoyed being a member of the Moose Lodge #2078 and American Legion Post #611 while in Arizona.

Leroy was a lifelong member of the Peace Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. He was an avid sports lover, especially basketball and football. Leroy also enjoyed spending time with his sister, as well as his nieces and nephew.

Besides his parents and grandparents, Leroy was preceded in death by; a brother-in-law, Norman Merklein.

Leroy leaves to celebrate his life: his sister, Carla Merklein of Alma; nephew, Mark Merklein; two nieces: Deanna Gallentine; and Gina Andersen and her husband, Jim; and a host of other relatives and friends.

There will be no visitation as the family is honoring his wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in Leroy's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
