Funeral Services for Leslie W. "Les" Vanover will be conducted from the Spirit of the Rock Church in Oxford, Nebraska on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Bobby Wilson officiating. Interment will be held in the Norcatur Cemetery, Norcatur, Kansas at 1:30 p.m.

Leslie William Vanover, 61 years of age, of Oxford, Nebraska (and rural Clayton, Kansas) passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2014 in Oxford. Les was born on November 30, 1952 in Norton, Kansas, the youngest of three children born to Cloyd Elwood and Isabelle Anne (Chambers) Vanover. He received his primary education from Clayton Grade School and then graduated from Jennings High School with the class of 1970.

In his younger years, Les worked shoeing horses in Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado.

Later, Les farmed and raised cattle in the Clayton, Kansas area. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. Les and his mom enjoyed traveling to Hastings, Nebraska for horse races.

Les enjoyed making conversation with anyone. He enjoyed attending his adopted grandchildren's events and spending time with his family and friends.

Les was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clayton.

Les was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Phyllis McClelland.

He leaves to mourn his passing; his brother, Roger Vanover and his wife, Mary of rural Clayton; nephews: Greg Vanover of rural Norton and Kyle Vanover of Detroit, Michigan; niece: Robin Vanover of Charlotte, North Carolina; great-nephews: Caleb Vanover, Kegan Vanover, Lane Vanover, Clay Vanover and Dalton Vanover; great-nieces: Whitney Vanover and Caitlyn Vanover; special friend and companion, Norma Chapman of Oxford; extended family: Tim Chapman and his wife, Vickie of Edison, Nebraska, Clint Chapman and his wife, Kelly of Lincoln, Nebraska, Cory Chapman and his wife, Lacy of Holdrege, Nebraska and Sherry Sindt and her husband, Bill of Lambertville, Michigan; adopted grandchildren: Anthony and Carley Chapman, Noah and Nash Chapman, Camy and Caden Chapman and Jackie Mayo and Jessica Sindt; brother-in-law, Don McClelland of Norton; along with other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeted friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.

A memorial has been established in Leslie's honor and will be designated at a later date.
