Graveside Services and Interment for Lewis W. "Lew" Harris will be conducted from the Oxford Cemetery at Oxford, Nebraska on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Ken Breinig officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Oxford American Legion Post #219 in conjunction with the United States Army National Guard Honors Team.

Lewis Wayne "Lew" Harris, 69 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska. Lew was born June 19, 1941 at Murphysboro, Illinois, the youngest of seven children of David Richard and Lillie Marie (Barnett) Harris. He received his primary education in Illinois and then Romulus, Michigan. Lew then served his country in the United States Army from March 15, 1959 until his honorable discharge on February 14, 1961.

On June 4, 1977 he was united in marriage to JoAnn Christian and to this union one daughter, Shannon Marie was born. The family made their home in Strausburg, Colorado, where Lew was employed in maintenance by the Colorado Highway Department from 1978 until 1988. The family then relocated to Gillette, Wyoming, where Lew was employed as a driver for Early Bird Couriers from 1990 until 1996. In 1996, Lew moved to Oxford where he resided until his failing health and began to make his home at Holdrege Memorial Homes.

Lew enjoyed art, especially drawing and loved to play the guitar and fiddle.

Besides his parents, Lew was preceded in death by his three brothers: David, William and John; two sisters: Louise Cooper and Becky Lee; and sister-in-law: Ilene Harris.

He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Shannon M. Harris and her husband, Dan Marcum of Gillette, Wyoming; three granddaughters: Rhiannon, Rebecca and Ashley; brother, Ray Harris of Michigan and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is honoring Lew's request for no visitation.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
