Mass of Christian Burial for Lillian E. Johnson will be conducted from the St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, 7th & Kansas, Hastings, Nebraska on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the services at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. followed by the Rosary at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be held in the Parkview Cemetery in Hastings.
Lillian Emily (Dobesh) Johnson, 91 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Hastings) passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Lillian was born January 10, 1920 in Clay County, at Delphy, Nebraska, the second of five children born to John and Mary (Barta) Dobesh. She was raised on the family farm in Deweese, Nebraska.
On October 8, 1940, she was united in marriage to Edgar D. Johnson of Hastings and to this union three children were born: David, Darlene and Daniel. The couple made their home in Hastings, where Lillian was employed for 22 years at Norwest Bank, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and enjoyed volunteering for many years in surgery reception at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings.
Following Edgar's passing in 1987, she continued to reside in Hastings until 2003 when she moved to Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege, where she resided until her death. She will be remembered for her magnificent gardens, delicious cooking and baking, her willingness to help others and most importantly, her love of God and her devotion to her Catholic faith.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edgar; her brothers: Justus and Ernie Dobesh; sisters: Julia Davidson and her husband, Paul and Marge Skalka and her husband, Stan.
Lillian is survived by her three children: David Johnson and his wife, Marian of Tempe, Arizona, Darlene Clinch and her husband, Terry of Loomis, Nebraska, Daniel Johnson and his wife, Joni of Hastings; three grandchildren: Brent Johnson and his wife, Jullee of Hastings, Leesa Clinch and her partner, Joy Thomas of Kearney, Nebraska and Tawni Walton of Loomis; four great-grandchildren: Tonia and Stephen Johnson of Hastings, Alexander and Madison Walton of Loomis; sisters-in-law: Marge Dobesh of Kearney and Wilma Dobesh of Grand Island, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established and kindly suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings, the Crosier Monastery in Onamia, Minnesota or Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege.
