Lina Ruth Haley, 88 years of age, of Bellevue, Nebraska, formerly of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at her granddaughter's house in Holdrege, Nebraska, surrounded by her daughter, Mary and family. Lina was born in Palatine, New York on February 26, 1936.  She grew up in New York and was raised in an orphanage, and got out the first chance she was able at age 16.  When she was 18, she came to Nebraska to find her baby sister.  She learned to be loved and give love, as it was not something she was blessed with as a young girl, except for the love of her grandmother.

On October 22, 1955, Lina was united in marriage to Laverne Walter Haley in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, and they were blessed with three children:  Wayne, Tammy, and Mary. The family made their home in Plattsmouth, where Lina was active with her children's activities, including:  as a 4-H leader, teaching the kids to bowl, play softball, crochet, cook, sew, fish and garden.

Lina spread love everywhere she went, and never knew a stranger.  She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and later, great-great grandchildren.  She enjoyed playing women's softball and was an avid bowler.  She helped start the first Women's Softball League in Plattsmouth.  Lina loved listening to music and was knowledgeable of multiple genres too.

She was a life-time member of the Plattsmouth VFW #2543, Golden Fraternal Order of Eagle of Plattsmouth #365 Auxiliary, and Golden Fraternal Order of Eagles of Bellevue #3912 Auxiliary.

Lina was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings:  Mable May Sweet; Ervin C. Surnear, Jr.; Irene Elizabeth Gaines; Charles James Surnear (Sonny); George Surnear; and Rose Etta (Surnear) Markham; her son, Wayne LeRoy Haley; and grandchildren:  Tanny Ruth (Watts) Nelson; Christina Lynn Nelson; Rodney Scott Allen, Jr.; Macayla Nicole Allen; and James Dewitt Haley.

Lina is survived by her daughters, Mary Novich and husband, Michael of Bellevue; and Tammy Nelson and husband, Richard of Joshua, Texas; a brother, Clarence Harwick (Katherine) of Indian Castle, New York; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, plus one on the way; along with many extended family members, nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends; and a special friend (sister) Sondra Albertson.

There will not be a visitation, viewing, or memorial book signing the evening prior to the services.

Memorials in Lina's honor are suggested to the family for a later designation.
