Linda Sue Sturgis

Funeral Services for Linda S. Sturgis will be conducted from the North Park Assembly of God in Holdrege, Nebraska on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Wilkins officiating. Interment will be held in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Linda Sue Sturgis, 58 years of age of Holdrege, Nebraska departed this life on Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege after a seven month battle with brain cancer. Linda was born February 18, 1953, the first of three children, to Clinton H. and Vivian D. (Marble) Schluntz at the hospital in Holdrege, NE. She grew up on the family farm in Hollinger, where she was active in 4-H, community, church and school activities. She attended rural Hollinger School and graduated from Beaver City High School with the class of 1971. She attended Hastings Community College and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Dental Technology.

In 1973, she married Steve Colter and to this union a daughter, Karissa Sue, was born. On August 30, 1986, she was united in marriage to Charles Sturgis of Holdrege. They were looking forward to celebrating 25 years of a loving, joyous life together. Linda was a member of the Hollinger United Methodist Church and later became a member of North Park Assembly Church in Holdrege. Chuck, Linda, and Karissa had a music ministry; later friends Dennis & Chris Chesterman and Terry & Sandy Klein joined them. The highlight of her life for the past three years has been her granddaughter Cali. She cherished the time she was able to spend with her and was excited about the arrival of baby Jed.

Linda has been employed at BD for the past thirty-seven years. On January 14, 2011, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Although she endured many trials and countless hospitalizations, she never complained, she lived with hope, her faith in God never wavering. She will be remembered for her kindness, sweet spirit, smiles, shining attitude and as a dedicated Christian.

She is preceded in death by step-daughter, Kim Phelps; brothers-in-law: Dean Sturgis, Duane Peterson; and nephews: Brandon Bishop and Robert Peterson.

Linda is survived by her devoted husband, Chuck; loving daughter, Karissa Crawford and husband Chase of McCook; parents Clinton & Vivian Schluntz of Hollinger; brother Rick Schluntz of Beaver City; sister Roxie Vaughn and husband Mike of Holdrege; step-sons, Rick Sturgis and friend Kris of Lincoln, Rob Sturgis and wife Amy of Omaha; step-son-in-law, Todd Phelps of Dodge City, Kansas; sister-in-law Dorothy Peterson of Holdrege, brother-in-law Dale Sturgis and wife Loretta of Holdrege, Evert Sturgis and wife Bonita of Axtell; two grandchildren: Cali and Jed Crawford of McCook; step-granddaughter Logan Phelps of Kearney, Nebraska; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Linda's name and will be designated at a later date.
