Funeral Services for Lloyd A. Flodine will be conducted from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford, Nebraska on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Thalia Woodworth, officiating. Interment will be in the Stamford Cemetery.
Lloyd A. Flodine, 84 years of age, of Stamford, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma, Nebraska. Lloyd was born December 14, 1921 on the family farm southwest of Stamford in Harlan County, Nebraska, the fifth of six children of Albert and Eunice (Anderson) Flodine. As an infant he was baptized at the Swedish Mission Church southwest of Stamford. Lloyd attended school at Stamford, graduating from Stamford High School with the class of 1939. Following his education, Lloyd engaged in farming with his parents on the family farm. On October 20, 1942 he enlisted into the United States Army Air Corps serving his country during WW II until his honorable discharge on January 15, 1946.
On February 15, 1946 he was united in marriage to Lois E. Sporing at Phillipsburg, Kansas and to this union three sons were born: L. Randall, James D. and David T. The family made their home on the farm where Lloyd was born and he engaged in farming with his father. In 1975 they moved to a farm east of Stamford. Lloyd continued to farm on his own until 1983 when he was crippled in an auto accident. Lloyd farmed with his son, David until David's death in 1999, then retired. In 2005, Lloyd moved to the Colonial Villa in Alma due to his failing health.
He was a lifelong member of the Merlin Palmer American Legion Post #233 in Stamford.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Lois of Stamford; son, Jim Flodine and his wife, Mary of Omaha, Nebraska; two daughters-in-law: Nancy Flodine of Harlingen, Texas and Patricia Flodine of Holdrege; seven grandchildren: Jessica and John Flodine of Harlingen, Shannon Milenkovich and her husband, Rick of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Brett Flodine and Travis Flodine and his fiancé, Anne Stary all of Omaha, Christopher Flodine of Denver, Colorado and Brooke Flodine of Kearney, Nebraska; three great grandchildren: Hannah, Emma and Brendan; sister, Ilene Lubeck of Stamford; sister-in-law, Mary Butler and her husband, Walter of Yuba City, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: David Flodine and Randy Flodine; two sets of sibling twins in infancy and brother-in-law, Leo Lubeck.
Mr. Flodine will lie in state at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A memorial has been established in his memory.
