Buttermore will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Republican City United Methodist Church in Republican City, Nebraska with Reverend Jim Bendorf officiating. Private family inurnment will be held prior to the service at the Naponee Cemetery at Naponee, Nebraska.

Lois Evelyn Buttermore, 87 years of age, of Republican City, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society Colonial Villa in Alma, Nebraska. She was born March 8, 1930, in Naponee, the second of four children born to Ervin and Marie Veda (Ruopp) Amman. Lois attended school at Naponee and graduated with the Naponee High School class of 1947.

After graduation, she was employed at the PMA office in the Franklin Courthouse in Franklin, Nebraska. It was during this time she met her future husband.

On December 3, 1950, she was united in marriage to James E. "Jim" Buttermore at the Congregational Church in Naponee. The couple were blessed with four children: Diana, James, Gary and Alun. The family made their home in an 18' trailer, first in Franklin, and then in Naponee. During the day, Jim would work at his job, constructing the Harlan County Dam and in their spare time, the couple would take down buildings in old Republican City, for the lumber which they used to build their home in the new Republican City. Later, they were able to live in the basement of their new house, until the main house was finished in 1958.

When the children were older, Lois began her career with the United States Postal Service. She first served as a clerk and then as a Postmaster in Republican City, and then worked as a Rural Mail Carrier, and then Postmaster in Alma, until her retirement in 1990. After retirement, Lois and Jim enjoyed many years of traveling throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada with their fifth wheel trailer. Wintering in the south and visiting all of their children and grandchildren, made many special memories. Jim passed away on April 22, 2017.

Lois enjoyed quilting, tending to her flower garden and baking, even making wedding cakes for a time. She loved raising her children and attending their many activities. There was always a sporting event or school program to attend. She was a member of the Klatter Klub, the Order of the Eastern Star and a couples card club, where much fun was had. Music was a big part of Lois' life. She began playing the piano for the Congregational Church services in Naponee, when in just the 8th grade. In Republican City, she was an active member of the UMW and the United Methodist Church, where she played the piano and organ for many, many years.

Besides her parents, and husband, Jim, she was preceded in death by; her brother, Glenn Amman; and niece, Karen Dicke.

Lois leaves to celebrate her life; her daughter, Diana Miller of Cary, North Carolina; her three sons: James Buttermore, D.D.S. and his wife, Maria of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Gary Buttermore and his wife, Deb of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Alun Buttermore and his wife, Megan of Salem, South Carolina; eleven grandchildren: Chris Miller and wife, Leigh, Michelle Miller and husband, Spencer Kostinsky, Jeff Buttermore and wife, Nicole Griffard, Jennifer Mahoney and husband, Tom, Matthew Buttermore and wife, Laura, Elissa Buttermore, Maggie Clayton and husband, Steven, Nathan Buttermore and wife, Elizabeth, Jaclyn Braa and husband, Jake, Aaron Buttermore and wife, Xiomarie and Jordan Buttermore; eleven great-grandchildren: Mercedes, Brandon, Sela, Paige, Emelyn, Zoey, Lainey, Nolan, Ellee, Elaine, and Mina; two sisters: Shirley Dicke and her husband, Leonard of McCook, Nebraska and Lorene Richter and her husband, Rodney of Naponee; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
