Celebration of Life Service for Lois E. Ericson will be conducted from the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Paul Bauman and Murray Jones officiating. Private family interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege prior to the services.
Lois Elaine Ericson, 85 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Lois was born March 6, 1930, at Paul, Idaho, the second of four children born to Leslie and Carrie (Hoppe) Hendrickson. Lois graduated from Holdrege High School as Salutatorian with the class of 1948. She then pursued higher education in Biblical Studies, receiving an Associate Degree from Trinity College in Chicago, Illinois.
On June 5, 1951, she was united in marriage to Darrell Lavern "Bud" Ericson at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, and this marriage was blessed with two children: Kevin and Karen, who were adopted through Child Savings Institute in Omaha, Nebraska. The family made their home on the farm five miles north of Funk.
Lois always seemed to have a mission in life, which was caring for others. She was employed at Phelps Memorial Health Center as the Housekeeping Supervisor, retiring after 20 plus years of employment. Following retirement, she was employed at the Trinity Daycare. In her most recent years, Lois enjoyed giving devotions during the weekends at Christian Homes. Music was a big part of her life; she especially loved singing and also played the cello in her high school years. Lois loved to read and do counted cross-stitch. Lois was a member of the Friendship Club in Funk for many years and a long-time member of the Emmaus Evangelical Free Church north of Funk, Nebraska, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darrell on December 21, 2010; two sisters: Joan Anderson and her husband, Levern; and Pauline "Polly" Olson and her husband, Reverand Don Olson; one brother, Charles "Chuck" Hendrickson; and brother-in-law, Hardy Ericson and his wife, Mary.
She leaves to celebrate her life: her son, Kevin Ericson and his wife, Sandi of Funk; daughter, Karen Stegman and her husband, Mike of Columbus, Nebraska; nine grandchildren: Klint Ericson and his wife, Laurel of Washington, D.C.; Kerrie Rosheim and her husband, Capt. Aaron Rosheim of Ames, Iowa; Kendall Ericson and his wife, Jessica, who reside on their grandparent's farm north of Funk; Kaleb Ericson of Loup City, Nebraska; Kyle Ericson and his wife, Stephanie of Elsberry, Missouri; Krystal Galster and her husband, Kirk of Salt Lake City, Utah; Erik Stegman and Andrew Stegman both of Omaha, Nebraska; and Ryan Stegman of Columbus; seven great grand-children: Alexis, Drake, and Serenity Ericson, Titus and Selah Rosheim, and Eve Lois and Lucy Ericson; one sister-in-law, Minnie Hendrickson of Gardnerville, Nevada; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. The family will be honoring Lois' wish for a closed casket.
A memorial has been established in Lois' honor and kindly suggested to Child Savings Institute in Omaha or the Trinity Daycare.
