Funeral Services for Lois C. (Stacey) Sickels will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Chaplain DeWane Dow officiating. Interment will be held in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege following the services.
Lois Catherine (Winkelmann) Stacey Sickels, 83 years of age of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017, at her home in Holdrege. Lois was born on December 30, 1933, at the Red Cross Hospital in Rockglen, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Ernest and Mary (Luntsford) Winkelmann, and was welcomed into the family by three older brothers: Melvin, Joseph and Ernest. When Lois was 3 years old, the family moved from Canada to Smith Center, Kansas, where she received her education.
On August 13, 1950, she was united in marriage to Clyde Riley in Smith Center, and to this union one son, Earnest was born. Clyde and Lois were later divorced.
On June 16, 1956, she was united in marriage to Ray Sickels in Smith Center, and the couple were blessed with two sons: David and Donald. The family resided in Smith Center until 1962, when they relocated to Holdrege. Ray preceded her in death on July 26, 1990.
On April 3, 1999, Lois married Ron Stacey in the Immanuel Lutheran Church at the Nebraska Prairie Museum in Holdrege. Through the years, they enjoyed competing in corn-picking competitions throughout the Midwest, and won several trophies. Ron passed away on Dec. 22, 2014.
Lois was very talented at crafts, enjoyed working in her yard, and gardening. While her sons were young, she was very active in the Boy Scouts, and enjoyed attending all of their activities.
Besides her parents, and husbands; she was preceded in death by three brothers: Melvin Winkelmann, Joe Winkelmann, and Ernie Winkelmann.
She leaves to celebrate her life, her three sons: David Sickels and his wife, Debby of Holdrege; Earnest Riley and his wife, Marsha of Smyrna, Georgia, and Donald Sickels and his wife, Dawnette of Arlington, Texas; nine grandchildren: Andy Sickels and his wife, Dixie; Jill Witt and her husband, Wayne; Riley Halbmaier and her husband, Trevor; Amy Levy and her husband, Court; Erin Riley and his wife, Tabitha; and Megan, Skylar, Karsyn, and Pyper Sickels; 14 great-grandchildren: Zachariah "Zack", Paige, Paytin, and Levi Sickels; Shali Witt; Raegen Halbmaier; Kellen, Tyrese, Jeffrey, Joyce, Sarah, and Eddie Levy; and Evan and Ayden Riley; sister-in-law, Ina June Winkelmann of Holdrege; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
There will be no visitation.
