Lois Marie Wentling, 86 years of age, of Holdrege (formerly of Oxford, Nebraska), passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Lois was born March 17, 1929 on the family farm, southwest of Stamford, in Furnas County, Nebraska, the youngest of four daughters born to Carl Eddie Ephriam "Ed" Corbin and Phoebe (Swanson) Corbin. Lois received her primary education in rural Furnas County and then graduated from Stamford High School with the class of 1945. When Lois was thirteen years of age she lost her mother. Following her education, she began a lifetime of caring for others, helping her father and uncle on the farm. In the years to come, Lois was also employed by the Stamford Café, the Oxford Sale Barn and then later in years she worked in housekeeping at the Walker Post Manor in Oxford.
On May 1, 1960, she was united in marriage to Dale E. Wentling at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford and to this union three children were born: Peggy, Craig, and Scott. The family made their home on a farm west of Stamford, where Dale and Lois engaged in farming until retirement. In 1983, the couple moved into Oxford. A highlight of Lois' life was following her children, grandchildren's, and nephews and nieces sporting activities. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt.
On April 10, 2013, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale. In March of 2015, Lois began to make her home at Holdrege Memorial Homes due to her failing health, and resided there until her passing.
Lois was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford, and was also a member of the Stamford American Legion Merlin Palmer Post #233 Auxiliary, and enjoyed her involvement in card clubs throughout the years.
Besides her husband, and parents; Lois was preceded in death by two sisters in infancy; and sister, Helen Tams and her husband, Leo; brother-in-law, LaVern Wentling and son-in-law, Randy Maruhn.
Lois leaves to celebrate her life; her daughter, Peggy Emmons and her husband, Randy of Oxford; two sons: Craig Wentling of Oxford, and Scott Wentling and his wife, Mel of Grand Island, Nebraska; four grandsons: Jared and Cole Maruhn and Brendan and Keyin Wentling; sister-in-law, Doris Wentling of Johnson Lake, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Lois' wish for cremation.
