A private family prayer service and viewing for Loretta Pauline Whetstine was held the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska. Following the traditional viewing, cremation will take place and a private family inurnment will be held at a later date in Groom, Texas.
Loretta Pauline (Keeten) Whetstine, 76 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, formerly of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at the Good Samaritan- St. John's Center in Kearney. Loretta was born April 15, 1939 at Smith Center, Kansas, the sixth of seven children born to Clarence Elmer and Ethel Irene (Philbrick) Keeten. She received her education from a country school near Naponee, Nebraska.
On February 12, 1958, she was united in marriage to Donald Whetstine in Hastings, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with four children: John, Larry, Patricia and Angel. Donald preceded her in death on March 20, 1996.
Loretta enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and canvasing. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband; she was preceded in death by her daughter, Angel Whetstine in 1991; two sisters: Berdina Barnes and Julie Keeten in infancy; three brothers: Wayne Keeten, Raymond Keeten and wife, Bonnie, and Marvin Keeten.
She leaves to celebrate her life; her three children: John Whetstine and his wife, Sandy of Holdrege, Larry Whetstine of Orange, California, and Patty Barker and her husband, Todd of Fremont, Nebraska; one brother: Paul Keeten and his wife, Beverly of Raleigh, North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Loretta's honor and will be designated at a later date.
